The painting was initially created using acrylic on canvas and created with spontaneity and energy. The shapes were later painted over with a mixture of oil paint and refined linseed oil to heighten the contrast and give a light sheen to the surface. This technique focuses on two different speeds to create a painting, one that is quick and unfiltered and another that is more methodical and refined. Referencing midcentury aesthetics and modernism this piece fits nicely in a variety of interior settings. The playful title references the interaction of shapes, conversing and interacting with one another across space. Matt Higgins b. 1987 is an artist and art professor who lives and works in Philadelphia, PA. He maintains a regular studio practice in the Fishtown neighborhood focusing primarily on abstract styles of painting but sometimes dabbling in text-based paintings, landscapes, or other genres of painting. His work is included in numerous private collections and has been included in a wide range of interior design projects including residential properties, corporations, and hotels. less
