You Art Nouveau fans certainly know when I say “at the top.” Many of their products were positively breath-taking, and if you tour Europe’s best antique shops you’ll see what I’m talking about! This planter is certainly suggestive of that level of excellence. I don’t know whether it was originally polished and lacquered but I suspect that it was. Perhaps this is the original finish. . . ? There are places where the lacquer has been invaded by moisture and created some black spots, par for the course. One is always able to remove the lacquer, clean and polish the metal, and re-lacquer the item. An ugly job not worth the trouble — unless done by someone else!. On that note, one can accept these small offenses as part of the “patina of antiquity. ” The handles are certainly solid brass, and I suspect the vessel itself is too, with a copper plating. Then again, it might be solid copper. It’s a positively knock-out bowl for your equally stunning floral display.Measurements: 7 high (including the arms, 4 3/4 just the vessel), 12 1/2 wide by 9 deep (the vessel), 17 3/4 including the arms. less
